Brian is a consultant psychiatrist at St Vincent’s University Hospital and an associate professor with the University of Melbourne. Brian has worked in early intervention for psychosis for the last decade, originally with the DETECT Early Intervention for Psychosis service between 2009 and 2011 and then he moved to Australia and worked with the Early Psychosis Prevention and Intervention Centre (EPPIC) at Orygen, where he was a consultant psychiatrist from 2016 – 2020. Brian’s areas of interest in research include physical health, epidemiology, clinical trials in early psychosis and the reduction of coercive/ restrictive interventions. Brian is currently an investigator on four RCTs in the area of early psychosis and he was a contributor to the Lancet Commission on the physical health of people affected by severe mental health disorders. Brian has over 120 publications in the area of early psychosis and he has supervised over 20 MD students as part of their medical degree at the University of Melbourne.
