Colm is Professor of Psychiatry at National University of Ireland, Galway, and Consultant Psychiatrist at University Hospital Galway. He is Vice Dean of the NUIG Deanery for postgraduate basic specialist training in psychiatry and Director of the Clinical Neuroimaging Laboratory at NUI Galway. Colm leads a clinical research program into the causes and treatments of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, with a major focus on neuroimaging as a tool for biomarker discovery. His research programme also addresses aspects of health services research with a particular emphasis on improving the experience of involuntary care. He has supervised 15 PhD/MD students to completion and authored over 250 original publications in peer reviewed journals
